Praise FOR VALMIKI RAMAYANA, A COMMENTARY
"Title: Valmiki Ramayana: A Commentary
Author: Lakkaraju Ananta Rama Rao
Genre: Hinduism
It has been another great month for books and I am thrilled to share with you a gem from Indian mythology, history, and holy Hindu scriptures that has truly captivated me until I finished all volumes, one by one, becoming acquainted with the glory of lord Rama and all the events/Kandas of the epic book of Hinduism Ramayana.
An original commentary on Valmiki’s Ramayana and a dramatic adventurous story of lord Rama that runs through the pages of these three volumes. Not a direct fiction, yet it has many arteries of short stories that keep the mainstream narrative connected.
I was involved and invested in the commentary, yeah it sounded so authentic and original that I wanted to know more and more about characters that were part of Ramayana directly and indirectly. Since it is an epic book, characters are abundant. And each one so arcane and prolific that their influence was better off as I chugged ahead my reading page after page.
Commentary on Valmiki’s Ramayana by the scholarly author Lakkaraju Ananta Rama Rao is a testament to his command over the subject matter and his keenness about the Western literature. Sounds heavy but that is really impressive. The vivid descriptions and emotive depictions successfully transported me to the places where the lord Rama, evils, saints, and folks trundled on…cathartic and sensory feelings bringing life to narrative.
The build of moments throughout the commentary was a work of depth dimensional. Only a true genius with apt knowledge could deliver such a vast scope of the work that too with the classic Ramayana. Clear insights about Kandas were another great feature of the books.
The descriptions of life struggles that lord Rama took in jungles were perceptive and I could feel the intense drama with each turn of the page. This continued right until the end where the book became a powerhouse of emotions and drama.
Hinduism and Indian mythology lovers will both like reading these volumes since it is endearing and captivating and insightful. This book is a fascinating escape into a world of magic, fate, and love, battle drama and much more.

" As someone who was brought up reading the Ramayana and Mahabharata, I can attest that the authenticity of this work is commendable. This commentary did not alter the message or the verses of the original script but rather just provided additional information, almost like a story. Despite this being a religious commentary, its unbiased nature makes it very appealing. There are several times where …. Paradise Lost, Iliad, and other texts have been used to make the commentary more relatable and easier to understand. Several literary sources from ancient and medieval India have been examined and fact-checked. The Sanskrit words and chants that may be difficult to understand and pronounce are translated and explained. I expected the book to be a little boring; however, told like a story, it was thought-provoking and entertaining. The book has been professionally edited, with only a few errors that I could find. There was nothing to dislike about the book since I found it very useful and full of information about the Ramayana. I recommend this book to people who are curious about mythology. Academic researchers will find this book to be most helpful. Though I felt that Hindus would find this book most suitable, it can be read by anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of Hinduism. Considering all the above arguments, I rate Valmiki Ramayana, A Commentary (II) Edition by Lakkaraju Ananta Rama Rao (Late) five out of five stars ."

" This book on Ramayana is based on the original Sanskrit epic by poet Valmiki. What distinguishes this book is that the author has summarized the story, for the reader’s benefit, and has gone on to give a longer commentary. He also makes useful comparisons with Western epics and classics. Rama Rao’s version is well suited to a global audience, especially the youth. I commend it to all schools, colleges and institutes, universities, and public libraries. It also deserves to be cherished as a family heirloom. It will make a wonderful gift on occasions like birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc. It can enhance intercultural understanding. It can foster global peace and welfare. It needs to be translated into several languages. It will be a treasure and anchor in old age. "

" Ramayana is a captivating narrative for several compelling reasons. Two specific aspects that draw my attention to the story include the notion that evil can manifest in various forms, exemplified by the character Ravana, (with ten heads) and the idea that love and unity, as demonstrated through the alliances of Rama with Hanuman and the Vaanaras, can ultimately triumph over evil. The commentary within the book effectively elucidates these themes."
